Begho Bhoot l Bengal : Derived from the Bengali term Baagh meaning 'tiger,' refers to the ghosts of those who perished or were consumed by tigers in the Sundarbans, the esteemed Royal Bengal Tiger Sanctuary in Bengal. Local inhabitants firmly believe in these supernatural beings, which allegedly scare individuals venturing into the jungle for honey or timber, enticing them to encounter tigers. At times, they even imitate tigers to further intimidate the villagers.


Shakchunni | Bengal: She is an enigmatic Bengali woman believed to have passed away without getting married. Adorned with fiery eyes, her unique characteristic lies in her stretchable arms. She stays on the lemon tree. Legend has it that those who dare to pluck a fruit from her tree are bound by a cosmic agreement to repay her in equal measure. Otherwise you may catch a glimpse of an arm stretching across vast distances to retrieve the fruit from your grasp.


Mecho bhoot: The Fish-eating ghosts with an insatiable appetite for fish! These incorporeal foodies will stop at nothing to satisfy their seafood cravings. Found lurking around lakes and rivers, they prey on unsuspecting late-night fishermen. Beware! These ghostly gourmands not only scare, but they might take their obsession to "fishy" extremes. Hook, line, and shiver!


MOHINI (Southern India): This enigmatic ghost arises from the death of unmarried or pleasure-deprived women. These vengeful spirits entice men with jingling adornments, sweet whispers, and food cooked on her flaming leg. Her presence is unveiled by fragrant incense. Victims wither away, losing interest in life, as lingering fragrances and stained walls foretell their untimely demise.


Puwali | Assam: These mischievous tiny ghosts of small children in size, delight in pilfering sweets from kitchens and shops. These prankster apparitions take pleasure in their mischief, causing a ruckus and leaving behind an air of mystery. The legend of these ghosts adds a touch of whimsy to the tales of the paranormal.
